Frequently asked questions about Lace wigs

What is the difference between a Full Lace wig and a regular wig?

Unlike regular wigs, Lace Wigs are made by individually hand tying strands of hair to a fine lace mesh material, which gives lace wigs superior advantages over regular wigs. The strands of hair tied to the lace material not only allows for a light weight fit but it also creates an impressive illusion of the hair growing out of the scalp. The lace, once adhered to the skin, virtually vanishes creating a natural looking and flawless hairline. Lace wigs also have amazing versatility and style flexibility. The full lace base allows the wig to be parted anywhere and can be worn in high ponytail or up do!

Who wears these wigs?

Up until recent years, lace wigs have been worn primarily by actors and people who suffered from hair loss due to medical problems such as Cancer and Alopecia. Now, Lace wigs have exploded into the mainstream hair and beauty scene as more and more people discover their versatility and natural appearance. These wigs have also become increasingly popular among Celebrities such as Mary J. Blige, Tyra Banks, Beyonce, Oprah and many more.

What is the difference between a Full lace wig and a Front lace wig?

Full Lace Wigs" are lace wigs which are designed with the entire wig cap being made from lace allowing for style versatility including multi-directional parting and the ability to style high up dos and ponytails. "Lace Front Wig" or Front Lace Wig only has lace in the front of the wig and the remainder of the wig is made from a regular netted wig cap. As a result, Lace front wigs have limited style possibilities.

Can I wear lace wigs if I have a full head of hair?

Yes! You can braid/cornrow, wrap, or flatten hair to prepare for application. The main objective is to get one's hair as flat as possible for the most natural look.

Is it really undetectable?

Once applied correctly our wigs are, indeed, very undetectable.

How do I know the lace color you have will suit my complexion?

Please note that most of our dark in stock units have medium brown lace (excluding blond and light colored wigs). Medium brown is suitable for a large range of complexions. It is suitable for people with dark brown complexion like Kelly Rolland and for people with light to medium brown complexions like Ashanti and everything in between.

Can I swim in it or play sports?

Yes, you can swim in your lace wig if you have waterproof adhesive, however we highly recommend not exposing your lace wig to chlorine and salt water. You can exercise in your wig if the wig is applied with an appropriate adhesive that can withstand this type of activity.

Can I part my lace wig and where can lace wigs be parted?

Full Lace wigs can be parted anywhere on the cap! If you are covering your hair, the trick is to have your parts look natural by either wearing a stocking or wig cap that is close to your skin's color.

Can I color the wig?

Only if your unit is 100% Virgin hair! Because Remy hair, has already been dyed (with industrial strength dye) and processed, additional processing may not take the color. In most cases, it will be difficult to achieve the desired color because the hair has already been dyed black or dark brown. If you would like to color your lace wig, we recommend purchasing one of our Virgin hair lace wigs. Virgin hair has not been previously processed or colored and therefore can be colored easily.

Can the hair be flat ironed or curled?

The hair is 100% human hair therefore you can use curling and flat irons. However, like your natural hair, the hair can get damaged due to overheating. We recommend limiting the use of hot tools on the hair. Wet setting the hair and letting it air dry is most preferred.

Will a lace wig damage my hairline?

No. A properly applied and removed lace wig will not damage your hairline. Please make sure you use an oil based solvent for removal to prevent the hair around your hairline from breaking off.

Do lace wigs Shed?

Yes, some shedding is to be expected due to the fact that the hair on lace wig is hand tied by a single knot (sometimes double knots) to the lace. As with natural hair, brushing, combing and styling can lead to shedding. To minimize shedding Sassy Secret now infuses glue on the knots. This helps minimize shedding. However, it does not completely get rid of the problem. Proper care must be taken when styling your wig to minimize shedding. Click Here to view tips on preventing excessive shedding.

What type of hair is a lace wig made of?

Sassy Secret Human Hair lace wigs are made with High Quality Indian or Chinese Remy hair. Sassy Secret also now offers lace wigs made with 100% Natural Unprocessed Virgin hair. Our Virgin hair is a superior human hair grade that is collected from a single hair donor. The cuticle layer of the hair is left intact making the hair easy to manage and virtually tangle free.

How long will my wig last?

Human Hair Lace wigs generally last anywhere from 3-6 months depending on care and how often you wear it. Virgin hair lace wigs generally last from six months to one year, also depending on care and use. Sassy Secret will provide you with a complementary set of care instructions with your wig purchase.

What else will I need to order with the wig?

You will need to order your adhesive and adhesive remover, at minimum, to apply and remove unit.

How do I attach or wear the wig?

Click here to view the Sassy Secret Application Video. Most of our customers apply the units themselves. You can also purchase the extended version of the a lace wig application video from our website.

How long can I wear my wig at a time?

How long your wig stays on will depend largely upon what type of adhesive you use and how it responds to your body chemistry. Most of our customers achieve a 1 to 2 week hold with the right adhesive. We do not recommend keeping the wig on for more than two weeks because over extended wears can cause damage to your own hair line. Find an adhesive that works for you and your body chemistry. The best way to find the one is by trial and error.

What density should I order and why does it matter?

Density is defined as how thick or thin the hair on the unit is. The standard and most popular choice is 120% which is Medium Thick Density. The average human head is considered 100% density so 120% is thicker. Most women achieve a natural appearance with light to medium or medium density; however, your choice will depend on your personal style preference. Sassy Secret stock wigs have light density around the perimeter and medium 120% elsewhere.

What are bleached knots?

Bleached knots is a technique where we bleach out the knot that is made when strands of hair are hand-tied into the lace at the base of the cap. It bleaches the knot out, making it a little lighter so that it does not stand out as much. It gives it a more natural appearance as though the hairs are growing out of the scalp. This is recommended when you choose a dark hair color. Sassy Secret Lace wigs come with bleached knots only around the perimeter.

What is French lace and Swiss Lace?

French lace is stronger and will hold up better over the long run, French lace is slightly more detectable because of its thickness. Swiss lace is finer and therefore is less detectable and blends better with the the skin/complexion after application, however it is slightly less durable and it rips easier if not handled with proper care. Sassy Secret stock wigs are all made with Swiss Lace.
